For the illiterate HR Practitioner, employment is a favour by the employer, but this is not so with the educated HR Professional. The illiterates have not heard of "quid pro quo"
The illiterate HR Practitioner goes into Thin Air once he secures a job usually by nepotism. He is never concerned by anything going on in the labour market.
Some of the reasons for Job Hopping by educated HR Professionals may include the following: -
- Toxic work environment.
- Greater opportunities.
- Refusing to be put down.
- Speaking truth to authority.
- External pressure to move.
- Inability to tolerate rubbish.
- Refusal to become illiterate all over again.
- Holding unto your integrity - both personal and professional.
- Ability and capacity to identify what you want out of pay employment.
- Poor pay.
- Salary inequity.
As I said somewhere earlier in this blog, I got involved in job-hopping for upward mobility and salary increments.
Two examples only:
Firstly, I once joined a company, worked three days and left to become unemployed due to the toxicity of the environment.
Secondly, In 2016 when I left regular paid employment, I had a remote interview with a Consultant based in the UK for an HR job in a Fast Food Company here in Nigeria with an appreciable backward integration. I turned down the offer not as a result of the pay but the employer's refusal to accept my demand for a 10-hour two days working week. While the Consultant considered my demand as being terrible, my closest friend told me, it was a wicked demand.
Let me shock you, That particular job has been advertised four times from 2016 to date.
Next week, our Content will look at HR BY GOOD QUALITY EDUCATION AND SALARY INEQUITY.
