DECISION MAKING: A STRATEGY FOR DEVELOPMENT 1

 Broadly speaking,  there are two types of people. Some make decisions and those for whom decisions are made. 

There are always costs for every decision. While those who make decisions take responsibility for their actions,  those for whom decisions are made, shifts responsibility by blaming others. 

It is usually easy to amend a decision when it is made by you. The reverse is the case,  if the decision is made for you. 


I have made several decisions which have made me who I am today. 

Below are some of the personal decisions I have made,  but in no particular order. Some with dates and others without dates. 

They are as follows: -

- Around 1957, I decided that I would not die young. 

- I bought and fully paid for play. 

- About 1969-1970, I decided not to inherit nobody's enemies. 

- In 1970, I decided to go to school in 1972, by rejecting to become a furniture maker. 

- At an early age,  I decided not to marry anybody's first daughter. 

- In 1975, I decided to study Sociology instead of my former desire to study Law. 

- In the late 1970s,  I decided to relocate to Sapele in pursuit of education. 

- In December 1980, I decided that come 1981, I shall proceed to the University of Benin,  to study Sociology and Anthropology. 

- While in Uniben,  I decided not to earn Naira after graduation but Dollars,  consequently, I majored in Medical Sociology.

- In 1985, I conducted a study on "The Causes of Illness and Cure" in my Local Government Area Headquarters.

EMPLOYEE STEALING 7

 I worked in this particular company that pays terribly disproportionate Junior staff to Managerial salaries. My monthly salary was almost twice the salary of the five junior staff that worked with me. The above great disparity notwithstanding, one of the Clerk's secondary home was a beer parlour where he spent freely. A second junior staff on supervisory grade change his car twice in three years, while I the manager could not afford a single tyre of a car. These two staff, while one was in charge of purchasing, the second was in charge of processing the sales of scraps in the company.

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 6

 My refusal to accept two direct instructions from two gentlemen who were instrumental to my employment in two companies where I enjoyed working, cost yours truly those jobs because I considered those instructions as unreasonable. Firstly, I was asked to provide information that would lead to the termination of the employment of five high performing managers. My response was to send my boss a local ICBM to the effect that "a man who circumcises woman do not talk". If the man talks, he will die of hunger. Secondly, I was asked to tell half truths by my boss, which I considered to be telling lies and I refused.
