When I worked in a conglomerate sometime ago and I needed to fill a vacant position of a Personnel/Admin. Manager in one of the Profit Centres(Division).
I constituted a four-man panel of interviewers made up of three General Managers, one of whom was the Group Head, Human Resources Management of the Conglomerate and of course, yours truly, a mere Senior Manager, three grades below the General Managers.
At the end of the interview, all three General Managers picked a particular whom I considered unfit for the job. In fact, my final recommendation was "the best position he can be employed for is Personnel Clerk"
All three General Manager got to my boss, who was a grade higher than them and told him that the best candidate, they have chosen, I have rejected.
My boss told me that although he agreed with my assessment, but because of the grades of those three General Managers, I should offer the candidate the job stating that the truth will come out in no too distant time which did happened.
Three months after assuming duty, the Personnel/Admin Manager fought with a Cleaner in his department.
He was asked to resign from the job, after he wrote an apology letter to the Cleaner, which he did.
Next week, we shall share on sentimental disciplinary action.
