HR MANAGEMENT: WHERE GOING 15

While still sharing on Pervasive Ignorance in HR Management, there is an international dictum which states, "Think Global and Act Local". This is totally rejected by the vocal IHRP in my clime insisting that you must Think Global and Act global.

Consequent upon their large followership, it does appears that all hopes are lost. However, the good news is that a major blow was delivered against them recently.

In May, 2022, the President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), in a television program finish the IHRP finished by rekindling our hope that Ignorance has not totally taken over.

HOW?

He said that:

1. The CIPM is the only body backed by law to regulate the management of people at work in Nigeria by Act 58 of 1992. Anyone involved in people management at work in Nigeria, who is not a member of CIPM is a Quack.

2. CIPM is globally recognized and linked with other people at work management bodies. That at entry levels, foreign certifications without the Nigerian Labour Law and Industrial Relations will not be recognized as equivalent to the CIPM Diploma.

Hurray, the second point above put a final nail on the coffin of the IHRP who says, there are no more unions in Nigeria, therefore, we must be engaged in Employee Relations and not Industrial Relations.

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 8

I have a first degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the best university then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Benin, Benin City. During my undergraduate days, I decided not to earn naira on graduation, so when my course mates were rushing to major in Organizational Behaviour, I opted for Medical Sociology. I equally decided to go on to obtain a Masters Degree in Epidemiology so as to ensure that I work with either WHO or UNICEF where I would be paid in dollars. However, my university of choice was then being shut every other three months. This was against another decision of yours truly that I shall not spend more than 12 months for the masters program. At this point, I changed my mind to study Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the best University then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. This major shift brought yours truly into a profession that it's major tenants contradict my major attitudes to life. Some of ...

EMPLOYEE STEALING 7

I worked in this particular company that pays terribly disproportionate Junior staff to Managerial salaries. My monthly salary was almost twice the salary of the five junior staff that worked with me. The above great disparity notwithstanding, one of the Clerk's secondary home was a beer parlour where he spent freely. A second junior staff on supervisory grade change his car twice in three years, while I the manager could not afford a single tyre of a car. These two staff, while one was in charge of purchasing, the second was in charge of processing the sales of scraps in the company.

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 6

My refusal to accept two direct instructions from two gentlemen who were instrumental to my employment in two companies where I enjoyed working, cost yours truly those jobs because I considered those instructions as unreasonable. Firstly, I was asked to provide information that would lead to the termination of the employment of five high performing managers. My response was to send my boss a local ICBM to the effect that "a man who circumcises woman do not talk". If the man talks, he will die of hunger. Secondly, I was asked to tell half truths by my boss, which I considered to be telling lies and I refused. My boss explained further to yours truly, that what he was saying was for yours truly to play politics because politics is about half truths. He stated further that should yours truly continue to insist on the truth only, he would join others in fighting yours truly. My response to him was "you're welcome. Within five weeks of this discussion, your truly was tra...
