I wish to start by saying that anything touched by politicians get destroyed, the TU Movement not being an exception.
At the time Comr Adams Oshiomole committed suicide, the TUs were captured by the political elites.
In 2009 ASUU signed an agreement with FGN touching on lecturers welfare and the funding of the Universities, and till today that agreement has not bee fully implemented. This none implementation of this agreement led to a strike action that lasted about eight months, only for the strike to be called off under the guise of an MOU. However, what happen was "Strike Fatigue" that is why there have been some small strikes and numerous ultimatums to resume the strike again.
Another TU whose strikes have affected Nigerians negatively is the National Association of Resident Doctors. Nowadays, they only call on the government to settle the leadership of the Union. How is it done? They give the employer the instrument that is known to the Law force the employer to do their bidding, that instrument is ultimatum to go on strike.
According to the Labour Laws of this country, and strike action without exhausting all the stages of disputes settlement is an illegal strike and should be treated as such with the consequence of "No work No pay"
Finally, let me say that, no Union in this country represent the interest of workers but the interest of the leadership of the Union. Do I need to give any examples? Of course not.
