Last week Wednesday 2nd September was my 70th birthday and to mark the day, I invited 60 guests to celebrate with me.
After the celebration, I can classify the guests as follows:-
- Those who got the invite and did not respond.
- Those who got the invite, promised to attend but did not show up.
- Those who got the invite and promised to attend but circumstances beyond their control, they could not make it.
- Those who got the invite and promised to attend and actually attended.
At the celebration, gift giving as per African tradition, the guests could be classified into three groups:-
- Those who came eat and drank, and left without showing love.
- Those who came, eat and drank and showed love by cash and other items.
- Those who should have been there but failed to show up. These category made of five gentlemen showed more love than all others than attended the celebration.
When it came to making comments as to how much the guests know the celebrant, it was seeing is believing.. They all conspired to insult the living day light out of me. They said to my face that I was stubborn, very Stubborn and Extremely Stubborn and the icing was given by a gentleman I have known since 1994, that I was a Complicated man. They finally advised me to change.
In my response, I agreed to change to the extent that I will not deliberately start to tell lies. The other thing the change will involve is that before you ask for my opinion on anything, you must declare where you stand.
All said and done, we had a ball and I want to express my deepest appreciation to all that attended with or without gifts. Equally , I give those who did not attend but sent their love, a huge Thank You.
Finally, all gratitude go to one who appointed the day before the foundation of the earth: Jehovah Overdo, The Complete God.
Next week, we shall share on the character content of a Stubborn man and say whether to be tagged STUBBORN is an insult or a compliment.
