In the 1990s while working in one company as Personnel Manager, I extended an existing law by over ten years before my action was legalised.
WHAT HAPPENED?
One Summer morning, I was in my office when a security guard brought a lady with two kids, asking for the whereabouts of her husband who worked for us.
In response to my inquiring, the lady said she had see the husband for almost three months. She further informed yours truly that she was hungry and tired of feeding herself and two kids.
Based on my compassion, I decided to do something that was unlawful and not in the company,'s conditions of service.
I sent for the three principal officers of the Branch Union. When they arrived I called the lady with kids and asked her to introduce herself after which I told them, what I have decided to do. Again on basis of compassion, the union officials agreed with me.
Then I sent for the staff and told him that it has been agreed by us that with effect from that month, while he signs for his salary, he will be given only 60% and the balance of 40% will go to his wife until further notice.
Finally, an agreement was signed by all the parties.
Where is the extension,?
Without condemning the staff, I convinced the Union Officials that our staff has two homes, which the 2010 Employees Compensation Act confirmed.
