I came to the commercial capital of Nigeria on 11th January, 1988.
In my search for a job, I was openly discriminated against but presented as the desire to employ only those with masters' degrees.
In 1989 I applied for a master's degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. It was only when I completed the program in 1990, the reality of Nepotism became apparent to me in 1991 when I attended an interview where I came first but someone decreed that he was going to employ the two candidates that took 7th and 4th positions. It took the intervention of the foreign CEO for yours truly to be employed.
When I eventually assumed duty, the duties assignment were heavily against yours truly, they thinking I was being punished but I got the best training.
I can report that all the jobs I got were at the intervention of foreign employees.
Fast forward to 2016, when I stopped 8.00 a m. - 5.00p.m work and being at home till 2024, I felt the urge to give back to my immediate community some of my acquired experiences in the form of Free Career Coucelling.
I met the head of the community and told him of my intentions, although happy at my intentions initially but spoilt it by saying that he would discuss my intentions with the council and revert back which has not happened till date.
WHY this post?
It is to put out there that I am ready to give back to society in the form of Free Career Coucelling. I could be reached at samobuke@yahoo.com or samobuke@gmail.com
