I like to appeal to you all to allow me start this Content from the conclusion by put on you the burden of my ignorance of computer and AI that they are strictly for data management.
Let us go historical.
In the 1990s I worked for a company that made it mandatory for all Group Management Staff to be computer literate, so we were all made to attend Computer Appreciation Course. Unfortunately, the policy failed at implementation.
In 2007 at Calabar CIPMN Conference in one of the Master Classes, when the facilitator continued to drum on the importance of computer in HR, I told him, it was for data management.
In 2011 I attended an MCPE, Introduction to HR Metrics,we discussed for two days and the main facilitator, a hard core HR Professional, told us in very clear terms, that it was for data management.
Fast forward to 2025 in a CIPMN Chapter meeting during a Factory Visit, the HR Director came up with this Fad of the very importance of not only computer but AI, and wanted my views as a retired member of the profession, I told the house that we have other two more serious problems. I told them, the refusal of current professional to read and not being involved in employee advocacy, should be of more serious concern to us than the Computer and AI Fad which he agreed.
Finally, if we should reduce HR to data management then HR has outlived it's usefulness and should be put back into the profession that is better at data management - Finance.
There are two other issues, which I would like to discuss before leaving Fads alone. The two issues are - Remote work and Salary Administration & pay Roll. Please tell me which should I attend to next week.
Attend to both, they're very important
