CHANGING JOBS: MORE THAN PAY

I am an Apostle and an Advocate of Job Hopping for salary increase and promotion. This position is as a result of my experience with the national malady of my country - NEPOTISM. No Nigerian wanted to employ yours truly. Almost all the places I worked, it was at the insistence of foreigners.

Let me put on record here again, that the main purpose of this Blog is not to quote works of foreigners but to share my experiences in the 25 years I did 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. work after post-graduate school.

Several people I worked with Except my direct bosses called yours truly STUBBORN. I accept I was and still stubborn, but until you come to the knowledge of the content/components of my being termed stubborn, you would have gone on a wild goose chase.

The components of my stubbornness are my major shortcomings and more of the reasons I change jobs frequently to the extent that in 25 years, I accepted 11 jobs offers and actually resumed work. For the purpose of salary Wahala I am concluding today, I am concerned with only 8 companies made up of 4 PLCs and 4 One-man businesses.

What then are the components of my Stubbornness. They are:-

- My IQ is far above the average.

- I hold my integrity by my side.

- I have no regards for covenant breakers.

- I excess ability and capacity to speak my mind.

- I do not deliberately go out of my way to tell lies.

- I believe firmly that half truths are lies.

- I believe in the sanctity of agreements, that no changes can be made to any agreement I am involved, without coming back to me for a new position.

- I detest people demanding respects without earning it.

- I detest eye-service with a passion.

- I have no room for praise singing.

- I do not play politics with my work.

- I detest oppression of the powerless.

- I refuse to take a fall for anybody.

- I reject in totality Nepotism.

Consequent upon the above components of my attitude, I am branded Stubborn. For me, this is a Compliment.

The next serious question is, how did I changed those 8 jobs, the subject of this analysis? I resigned from 4 companies (2 PLCs and 2 One-man businesses) and my positions were declared redundant in 4 companies (2 PLCs and 2 One-man businesses).

Everywhere I was declared redundant, there was no fault found in me, but ,I must be let go.While on the other hand, everywhere I resigned, I left because of low pay and the toxicity of the work environment.

Next week, we shall share on  CSR: The enemy within.

EMPLOYEE STEALING 7

I worked in this particular company that pays terribly disproportionate Junior staff to Managerial salaries. My monthly salary was almost twice the salary of the five junior staff that worked with me. The above great disparity notwithstanding, one of the Clerk's secondary home was a beer parlour where he spent freely. A second junior staff on supervisory grade change his car twice in three years, while I the manager could not afford a single tyre of a car. These two staff, while one was in charge of purchasing, the second was in charge of processing the sales of scraps in the company.

WICKED MANAGEMENTS AND CALLOUS TRADE UNIONS 5

As we conclude this Content on Wicked Managements and Callous Trade Unions, we shall share with you what should be done by both Management and Trade Union in protecting workers from unfair labour Practices. Last week, we identified some of the National Economic Challenges and the contributions of both Management and Trade Union to unfair labour Practices. The way out of Unfair Labour Practices falls on both the Management and the Trade Union. They are:- - Management and Trade Union must commit to adhering to the Codified Rules of Engagement. - Management shall not go out of the labour policies and procedures of the organisation. - There shall be no secrets in the management workers affairs. - Salaries, allowances and pensions must be paid as at when due (30 days cycle). - Workers shall be given fair hearing. - The Trade Union must be carried along on all issues of discipline and job loses. From the above, what comes out like we said previously, the Trade Unions unfair labour Pract...

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 8

I have a first degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the best university then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Benin, Benin City. During my undergraduate days, I decided not to earn naira on graduation, so when my course mates were rushing to major in Organizational Behaviour, I opted for Medical Sociology. I equally decided to go on to obtain a Masters Degree in Epidemiology so as to ensure that I work with either WHO or UNICEF where I would be paid in dollars. However, my university of choice was then being shut every other three months. This was against another decision of yours truly that I shall not spend more than 12 months for the masters program. At this point, I changed my mind to study Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the best University then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. This major shift brought yours truly into a profession that it's major tenants contradict my major attitudes to life. Some of ...
