Job Hopping is a career choice whereby workers opt to switch jobs frequently. It is the pattern of moving from one job to the next in a brief amount of time. It could also be the most effective way to increase your salary.
Some of the reasons for Job Hopping may include the following: -
- Increased salary potential.
- Skills development and diversification.
- Networking opportunities.
- Lack of job security.
- Negative perception from employers.
- Limited time for growth and development.
- Difficulty in building strong professional relationships.
There are advantages and disadvantages of Job Hopping which I would like to summarize in two profound statements: -
Disadvantage: A Financial Controller of a company I worked for in the 1990s told me, "A rolling stone gathers no mousse"
Advantage: My grandfather told me in 1968 that "A man who lived long but in one place has less experience of the world than a young man who has travelled far and wide"
Next week, we shall briefly on Performance measurement and its uses.
