HR BY GOOD QUALITY EDUCATION 2

Today,  our Content is on the main Characteristics of Illiterate HR Practitioners.

You inflicted yourself on the HR Profession if you have no educational qualification in HR before coming into the profession, notwithstanding the multitude of KSS (Knowledge Sharing Sections) you have been involved in,  it does not vitiate the fact that you are an Illiterate HR Practitioner.  You cannot build a multi-storey building on the foundation of a bungalow.

Some of the Characteristics of Illiterate HR Practitioners include the following: -

- They operate by Nepotism, without Initiatives and by Sentiments.

- They work long hours without commensurate results. I worked in a Group of Companies where one HR Manager was working day and night and I recommended that he should be taken to YABA LEFT.

- They lack wisdom because they do not apply correctly the knowledge they acquired from all the KSS.

- They cannot read and understand their company's annual statement of accounts.

- They do not know the difference between PayRoll and Salary Administration functions.

- They do not usually proceed on annual leave.

- They only play politics of promotion including PHD.

- They do not recognize a toxic work environment.

- They do not acquire quality work experience because they work within social statics. They preach the doctrine of "Rolling Stone Gathers no Mourns"

- They do not develop successors because they aim to die on the job.

- They YESS-MEN,  who cannot speak truth to authority.

- They do not understand the difference between Industrial Relations and Employee Relations.

- They are pathological at Aping.

- They do not know that they can disobey unlawful and unreasonable instructions.

- They are always involved in negotiating resignations with resigned staff.

Please add your characteristics based on observations and/or experience.

Next week Content will be on quality education and direct reporting lines.

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 8

I have a first degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the best university then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Benin, Benin City. During my undergraduate days, I decided not to earn naira on graduation, so when my course mates were rushing to major in Organizational Behaviour, I opted for Medical Sociology. I equally decided to go on to obtain a Masters Degree in Epidemiology so as to ensure that I work with either WHO or UNICEF where I would be paid in dollars. However, my university of choice was then being shut every other three months. This was against another decision of yours truly that I shall not spend more than 12 months for the masters program. At this point, I changed my mind to study Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the best University then in that discipline in Nigeria, the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. This major shift brought yours truly into a profession that it's major tenants contradict my major attitudes to life. Some of ...

HR MISTAKES BY YOURS TRULY 6

My refusal to accept two direct instructions from two gentlemen who were instrumental to my employment in two companies where I enjoyed working, cost yours truly those jobs because I considered those instructions as unreasonable. Firstly, I was asked to provide information that would lead to the termination of the employment of five high performing managers. My response was to send my boss a local ICBM to the effect that "a man who circumcises woman do not talk". If the man talks, he will die of hunger. Secondly, I was asked to tell half truths by my boss, which I considered to be telling lies and I refused. My boss explained further to yours truly, that what he was saying was for yours truly to play politics because politics is about half truths. He stated further that should yours truly continue to insist on the truth only, he would join others in fighting yours truly. My response to him was "you're welcome. Within five weeks of this discussion, your truly was tra...

REACTION 1

As I intimated last week, in the next two or three months, I shall be Reacting to posts by other HR Professionals. Today I wish to react to man's inhumanity to man in the work place. There is this young Nigerian who got an employment letter with great excitement but vanished when he opened the letter and saw the offer. The salary was not only very small, but there were no allowances of any kind. Also there were no medical services, no accident insurance, no pension scheme, no job description, salaries are paid late, no performance management system and no opportunity for upward mobility. The only way to survive was for him to get involved in other two jobs after work. REACTION The above situation only exist in places where the HR Manager is just a figure head meant to message the Ego of the employer. In properly organized companies, there are certain minimum HR Policies and Procedures. Where these HR minimum requirements are not in existence only charlatan HR Managers can be comfo...
