ILLITERACY, WEALTH, PRIDE AND HR PRACTICE 1

I used to say that there are two people you need not waste your time to correct and/or advice. They are a maiden who has just tested the fruit in the midst of the garden and a pastor. However, by the far worse is the African Illiterate Rich Man who has acquired pride by his wealth. I have worked with at least three illiterate rich men. My conclusion is that a professional HR man who could work with them are people who are just in HR and not in HR Practice. Some of the chacteristics of these men are as follows. - They have monopoly of wisdom. - They ask for advice to humour HR professionals. - Their children are the "Thin Thanks" -- They do not respect agreements with employees. - They cannot accommodate codified HR policies and procedures. - A majority of them detest trade unions. - No form of general salary increments are allowed. - Nepotism is the rule. - Original management meeting holds at home amongst family members. The only way to survive in these illiterate environme...

REJECTED VOLUNTEER

I came to the commercial capital of Nigeria on 11th January, 1988. In my search for a job, I was openly discriminated against but presented as the desire to employ only those with masters' degrees. In 1989 I applied for a master's degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. It was only when I completed the program in 1990, the reality of Nepotism became apparent to me in 1991 when I attended an interview where I came first but someone decreed that he was going to employ the two candidates that took 7th and 4th positions. It took the intervention of the foreign CEO for yours truly to be employed. When I eventually assumed duty, the duties assignment were heavily against yours truly, they thinking  I was being punished but I got the best training. I can report that all the jobs I got were at the intervention of foreign employees. Fast forward to 2016, when I stopped 8.00 a m. - 5.00p.m work and being at home till 2024, I fel...

INFALLIBLE? 258

Looking for what is grossly lacking in the lives of those in authority in Nigeria? All the people ruling in Nigeria from top to bottom are grossly Unjust and are ruling without the fear of God.

HUMAN RESOURCES FADS 6

In concluding this Content, my intention was to discuss Salary Administration Vs Pay Roll but decided against it for peace by talking about a Fad - Remote Work. COVID-19 came with all her disruptions to work. However, the Charlatans took the coping mechanism as a normal work even after the situation has return almost to status quo amte.  The very few loud charlatans who work in service organizations never allowed those who cannot work remote by the nature of their unique operations were made to feel like subhuman essentially because they wish to feel belonged to the new so-called normal. It becomes so abnormal in a country without electricity for campaigns for remote work. An example was a "Figure" in the professional body work for the most fully backward integrated company in our country did not moderate this foolish campaign of the Thinking global and Acting global, instead of Thinking global and Acting Local. How can that most fully backward integrated company work remote...

HUMAN RESOURCES FADS 5

I like to appeal to you all to allow me start this Content from the conclusion by put on you the burden of my ignorance of computer and AI that they are strictly for data management. Let us go historical. In the 1990s I worked for a company that made it mandatory for all Group Management Staff to be computer literate, so we were all made to attend Computer Appreciation  Course. Unfortunately, the policy failed at implementation. In 2007 at Calabar CIPMN Conference in one of the Master Classes, when the facilitator continued to drum on the importance of computer in HR, I told him, it was for data management. In 2011 I attended an MCPE, Introduction to HR Metrics,we discussed for two days and the main facilitator, a hard core HR Professional, told us in very clear terms, that it was for data management. Fast forward to 2025 in a CIPMN Chapter meeting during a Factory Visit, the HR Director came up with this Fad of the very importance of not only computer but AI, and wanted my v...
